Company formation FAQ - choice of company name

A proposed company name will not be accepted by Companies House if:

• it is the same as, or too similar to, a name which is being used by another company
• it includes the words limited or ltd, or the Welsh language equivalents, anywhere except at the end of the name
• it is offensive
• it contains a sensitive word
• it includes a word which gives the impression of a connection which does not exist with local or national government, other official organisations, or with a specific industry.

If the proposed company name is not accepted by Companies House, your company will not be able to be incorporated.
