We know that many people's experience of dealing with advisors is one of frustration, lack of communication and worry. However, at Coddan, we are committed to delivering a personal, friendly service to all our clients and we will keep you regularly informed about what's going on.
Coddan gives you access to our business advisors who will listen to your situation and determine the best option for your situation; ask clarifying questions and give preliminary advice; explain how the law applies to you; and recommend steps you can take to resolve your situation. We charge for every hour-spent onsite, with the exception of one hour per day for lunch. Note that rush rates may apply to overtime. We charge for meetings, as well as an additional hour to cover transportation time and parking.
We DO NOT charge for routine materials and services, but we may charge for long-distance calls and other expenses. We forewarn clients of these additional costs.
We charge on an hourly basis on top of which we add VAT. An hour is divided up into "units" of 6 minutes. Each hour therefore has ten units. The charges relate to the LEAD fee earner with conduct irrespective of the actual person who undertakes the work, as the lead fee earner is the person with day-to-day responsibility for your case, who will also oversee the work of others that may undertake work on your file on their behalf. Each letter, each e-mail prepared or received, and each telephone call made or received is charged as one unit (that is 10% or 1/10th) of the lead fee earners "charge out" rate. Long letters or telephone calls made or received are timed, and charged, in units of six minutes.
If the work that we undertake on your behalf is unusual or complex and, for example, requires us to work outside normal office hours, or if we have to deal with matters very quickly, we may charge you an additional "mark-up" for that work. You will be notified of this on your bill. You will find that this happens very rarely in the vast majority of cases.
Coddan specializes in rush jobs, but we charge more for them. Note that there is a lot of "give" here, and we let clients know when rush rates apply. Work on weekends between 9am and 5pm is at time and a half. If a job exceeds 1 (one) hour, Coddan must have both a signed contract and 100 percent down payment. We deliver interim bills for work done (which are to be treated as final bills as an interim bill, will be the only and final bill for charges and expenses for that period) on a monthly basis, and we cannot undertake any further work 14 days after that bill is rendered, until such time as that bill has been paid. This will enable you to budget for your charges and expenses and will also keep you fully informed as to the ongoing costs incurred in your case.
We require payment of your bill within seven days of it being sent to you and will charge interest at 10% per month from the date the bill is issued, if it is not paid within the fourteen days. We are obliged to inform you that this rate is higher than that to which we would otherwise be entitled by law. Interest will be charged on a daily basis.
We regret that we are not able to accept cash payments of over £500.00. Cheques should be made payable to Coddan CPM. Should we provide our bank details to you in the course of your case, we request that you kindly use these details only for the purpose for which they were provided, and also that you do not pass our bank details on to anybody else.
As a result of the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 and Money Laundering Regulations 2003 we must obtain satisfactory evidence of identity from all new clients before we are able to act OR DO ANY WORK ON YOUR CASE. Please note that if any fee-earner who is involved with your case has to spend time addressing issues which have arisen under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002, and that time will be charged in the same manner as any other work undertaken in relation to your case.
