If you would like to speak with one of our business advisors, we will set up an appointment with you for your initial consultation. During the initial consultation, the consultant will review with you your personal facts and circumstances, discuss the options which may be appropriate for you, and provide you with a fee/retainer quote. If you are outside the UK, we can provide an initial consultation by phone, post or via e-mail.
Please bring any documents you have regarding your case to your initial consultation appointment. If you have a phone or e-mail consultation, please fax your documents to us ahead of time.
When you schedule the telephone appointment, we will require a credit card to secure the consultation. One of our business consultants will speak with you on the date and time scheduled.
We do not know of any experienced professionals who provide free consultations with new clients. You may want to contact the Business Link (http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/) at 0845 6000 787 to get information on their referral service.

My situation engages
|My relationship with my current accountant
|| My current accountant does not explain what all the numbers on the reports he/she gives me mean.
|| I do get an explanation of what the numbers mean in theory, but I don't know how they relate to my business.
|| My current accountant is okay with explaining the numbers to me but he/she doesn't have the time/skills to do anything else to help me do something about them.
|My time management situation
|| I am too busy running my day-to-day operations to implement any profit or growth improvement strategies.
|| I'm not sure the time that me or my staff will spend on any strategy will be worth the end result.
|| I would devote some time to profit or growth strategies if I knew which one to make a priority.
|My business operations
|| I'm doing okay, but could really use some fresh ideas to invigorate me and/or my staff.
|| I'm having difficulty moving to the next business life stage (e.g., I seem to be stuck in the start-up phase, etc.).
|| It seems as though my competitors are doing much better than I am and I can't put my finger on why.
|| I need a review of my current business structure (e.g., I am a sole proprietor but I'm thinking of incorporating or taking on a partner, etc.).
|| I am thinking of selling or closing my business or parts of it.
|| I am thinking of starting a new business.
|Other (please describe below)|
The consultation concerning starting up a new business in the UK, Republic of Ireland, USA and offshore will be free of charge. This will be done via telephone or via sending us an e-mail and does not require any consultation requests.
|The purpose of the peivate initial consultation||
No legal relationship is intended to be established by the free, brief initial consultation. Legal opinions provided on the spur of the moment, with limited background information exchanged and without specific, fact-based research should not be relied upon for non-trivial legal matters.
The initial office consultation includes the following: getting to know each other, case background, fee and retainer negotiations and, often, advice and discussion of next steps. The initial office consultation is billed at the rate from £100.00 to £125.00 per hour / £50.00 to £65.00 per half hour.
It has generally been our experience that initial consultations take about one and one-half hours. Therefore, the cost will be approximately £155.00. That fee is to be paid at the time of the initial consultation. In some limited circumstances the consultation may be conducted over the telephone or by e-mail. The same hourly rate applies and payment must be made in advance for the estimated one and one-half hour consultation.
In most cases it will be worthwhile to have an advisor to reviews documents and becomes familiar with the issues before the initial consultation. If requested be sure to send the relevant documents to Coddan in advance of your consultation. You also might find it helpful both in preparation for your initial consultation and in preparation of your case to keep a journal, write a chronology or prepare a summary of the events and contacts with the relevant people involved in your case. If you have done so or can do so in advance of the initial consultation, send those documents as well.
Note that time spent reviewing documents in preparation for the initial consultation will be billed at the initial consultation rate and will be expected to be paid for at the time of the initial office consultation or in advance of the telephone or e-mail consultation. A minimum of one-half hour will be billed for advance documents review. An average of one and one-half hours should be expected for more than a few pages of advance document review.
As Abraham Lincoln is reported to have said, "A lawyer's time and advice are his stock in trade."
After submitting this form, you will receive an e-mail from Coddan offering you an initial consultation appointment which matches your stated preferences as closely as possible.
